The Education Law has been amended by adding sections 753 and 754.
§753 states that a school district is eligible for an apportionment for the purchase, lease, or repair of computer equipment or terminals for instructional purposes including staff development. §754 states that a school district shall have the power and duty to loan instructional computer hardware for free of charge to nonpublic elementary or secondary schools (2007-08 Estimated Aid = $37.4 Million). - Historical Notes for Approval of expenses for the purchase, lease or

Section 175.25 sets forth the requirements for approval of expenses for the purchase, lease or repair of computer hardware for instructional purposes pursuant to Education Law, section 3602(26). Section 100.12 describes the eligibility for aid for instructional computer hardware and technology equipment expenses related with Education Law §753, school districts shall develop and maintain a plan in a format prescribed by the commissioner.
Aid for Computer Software Purchases

- Each public school district may claim a maximum apportionment of Computer Software Aid equal to the product of $14.98 multiplied by the number of pupils attending schools within the public school district's boundaries and enrolled during the base year in grades K-12 in a public school district or nonpublic school (2007-08 Estimated Aid = $46.6 Million).
Lending Educational Technology to Nonpublic Schools

Computer software programs owned by a school district shall be available on an equitable basis to pupils in grades K-12 in public and nonpublic schools. Also, instructional computer hardware shall be loaned to nonpublic schools upon request.
Building Aid for Computer Technology

- Computer hardware purchase and installation, including conduits, wiring and powering and testing of hardware installations, are eligible for Building Aid even if the cost is less than $10,000.
Computer Administration Aid for Large 5 City School Districts and Non-Components of BOCES

Professional Development Services (State Aid for Instructional Computer Technology Services Purchased as a Shared Service through BOCES)
- Expenditures by a component school district of a BOCES for shared instructional computer technology services purchased through the BOCES, pursuant to a multi year contract, may be eligible for BOCES Shared Services Aid.

BOCES operates a service entitled Model Schools Technology Planning and Implementation Process designed to help teachers learn about, and apply instructional technology in the classroom. Activities are provided as part of the service include planning, curriculum development, staff development and evaluation.
