Code of Conduct Revisions

The New York State Education Department is requesting that you submit the Code of Conduct for your school district, Charter School, or BOCES to the Department by July 16, 2004.

The Safe Schools Against Violence in Education Act (SAVE) and Commissioner’s Regulations Section 100.2 (l) (2)  (iii) (a) requires the district to annually review and update if necessary the Code of Conduct. It further requires that any revision to the Code of Conduct be adopted, only after at least one public hearing that provides for the participation of school personnel, parents, students and any other interested party.  Each district is required to file a copy of its Code of Conduct and any amendments with the Commissioner no later than thirty days after their respective adoptions.

Much has happened which has affected daily school business and behavioral expectations for students since the Department last requested the submittal of the Code from your school. Advances in technology such as the camera-phone and the increased sensitivity to maintaining a safe and secure school environment are two examples. Submittal of this information will ensure that your filing requirements are current and provide assurances to the public that your Code of Conduct reflects the current issues challenging our schools.
