"Real Parents - Real Schools" a New York Learns Parent Night program on PBS
To Be Broadcast Starting In February"
The first of two television broadcasts developed and produced by the NYS Education Department looking at family, community and school partnerships will air at 10 PM on PBS channels throughout NYS and on WNET in NY City at 12 midnight on February 28, 2002.
The February 28th New York Learns program will begin to look at the many forms of meaningful parent and family involvement through conversation with parents and school personnel from rural, suburban and city locations throughout NYS. Real Parents – Real Schools will be hosted by New York State Education Commissioner Rick Mills and Ed Dague, Albany’s NBC affiliate news anchor.
On -site visits with NYS schools in Buffalo, Massena and NYC will explore the challenges faced by parents and families as well as schools. Programs being carried out by parents in schools that have been successful in building relationships, facilitating communication and recognizing parents as learning partners will be highlighted.
A second show scheduled for airing in May 2002 will look further into promising programs and practices within NYS schools will also be broadcast on the following public television stations:
