Revised School Bus Watch Program
TSA did not renew the contract with the American Trucking Association (ATA) for the School Bus Watch (SBW) program. The contract was put out to bid and was awarded to HMS in June. HMS officially took over the program on August 26, 2008. The highway security training program for the trucking industry has been developed and is being utilized. The official name of the program is “Eyes on the Road”.
HMS has requested assistance from the school bus industry to develop the school bus version of “Eyes on the Road”. The goal is to have the school bus training program and delivery system completed and available within a short period of time.
A security call center has been re-established and is currently functioning. School bus drivers are encouraged to utilize the new call in number if they identify any potential highway security concerns even if the drivers have not previously received SBW training. You are encouraged to distribute and publicize the new call in number (888 217 5902). A new feature of the call in program is that all callers will receive a follow up response from HMS within 72 hours of their initial call. The SBW call in number is no longer functioning.
