Background
All schools participating in the Reading First Program will continue to administer assessments according to the NYS Reading First Assessment Framework.
The Cohort B schools are expected to administer their first set of Reading First assessment measures by September 30, 2005.
Data from these fall assessments will be reported twice:
Baseline data, used to monitor annual student progress, will be collected through a special LEAP program (due to RIC October 17, 2005);
Screening data, used to inform instruction, will be collected through the fall Reading First Status Report (due to RSSC/SED December 23, 2005).
The following table lists Reading First assessments that will be used as both baseline and screening data for the Cohort B schools.

Directions
Administer the previous grade-level Reading First outcome assessments to current Grades 1, 2, and 3 students:
Fall 2005 first grade students will take the Kindergarten outcome assessments
Fall 2005 second grade students will take the Grade 1 outcome assessments
Fall 2005 third grade students will take the Grade 2 outcome assessments
Administer the Reading First screening assessments to Kindergarten students.
Either hand score all TerraNova assessments, or utilize RIC services. DO NOT send tests back to CTB for scoring.
Use the Special LEAP system to report the outcome (baseline) data for grades 1 – 3 only:
DIBELS – report raw score
PPVT – report standard score
TerraNova – report scale score
Use the Reading First Status Report to report the DIBELS screening data for grades K – 3.
Additional TerraNova Information
Order, administer, and hand/RIC score the Basic Battery for reading comprehension, NOT the Multiple Assessment.
Order, administer, and hand/RIC score the Word Analysis Plus and Vocabulary Plus tests.
Request answer keys from CTB if hand scoring.
Purchase a norms book from CTB if hand scoring.
Develop or purchase a document to record results (Class Record Sheet for Hand Scoring) in order to hand score.
CTB will create order forms specific to the needs of this testing period.
Schools that already administered any of the TerraNova assessments listed above, in spring 2005, may report those scores in fall 2005 (Special LEAP collection). Be careful to report the scores at the fall 2005 grade levels.
New students are expected to take the assessments listed above.
