2007-2008 LOCAL ASSISTANCE PLAN

(Required under Section 100.2 (m) (6) of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education)

Please note

  1. If the district already has a comprehensive district education (CDEP) plan, in lieu of developing a new local assistance plan (LAP) it may amend its CDEP to respond to a school’s identification as being below one or more benchmarks* established for school year 2005-06.

  1. If the district already has a school improvement plan, a corrective action plan or a restructuring plan for a school identified as being below the benchmark(s)*, such plan serves in place of a LAP for the school.

  1. If a district met its AYP, but did not meet one or more benchmarks* for school year 2005-06, it is still required to develop a LAP.

*State benchmarks can be found at:

http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/irts/school-accountability/2007/StateBenchmarksandAnnualMeasurableObjectives2005-07.htm

The purpose of the LAP is to specify the actions to be taken to improve student achievement on the State learning standards.  The LAP must specify the actions to be taken during the 2007-2008 school year to raise student results above the established benchmark(s).

There is no format prescribed for the LAP, so if the district wishes to follow the LAP procedures formerly posted at this website, it may.  Otherwise each 2007-2008 LAP must contain the following information:

  1. the name of each school identified as being below any benchmark,

  1. the subject and grade in which the school is below any benchmark,

  1. the resources to be provided to that school to raise student achievement,

  1. the professional development activities to be conducted at that school to help raise student achievement, and the

  1. the timeline for the provision of such resources and professional development activities.

  1. In addition, the LAP must contain a written assurance that:

a)      it was developed in accordance with the shared decision-making requirements of Section 100.11, and that

b)     it will be made widely available through public means such as posting on the Internet, distribution through the media, and distribution through public agencies.

  1. The LAP must also be formally approved by the board of education no later than October 15, 2007.

  1. A copy of the completed LAP must be kept on file in the district office and made available to those requesting to view it.
