Subject:             Reference Tables for Physical Setting/Physics, 2006 Edition

The Office of Elementary, Middle, Secondary and Continuing Education has recently released the 2006 edition of the Reference Tables for Physical Setting/Physics. This is an updated edition of the 2002 edition of the Reference Tables for Physical Setting/Physics and replaces all previous editions. High schools will receive shipments of the 2006 edition by mid-September. Upon receiving the
2006 edition, schools should discard any supply of the 2002 edition and use the 2006 edition exclusively. The 2006 edition of the Physical Setting/Physics Reference Tables is similar in layout and content to the 2002 edition, with the following modifications:

• The Electromagnetic Spectrum table has been slightly revised
• Waves and Optics section is now titled Waves
• In the Waves section, velocity or speed
• In the Mechanics section, has been modified to
• In the Mechanics section, the definitions for d,, r, v, and  have been modified by replacing the "/" or slash symbol with the word “or” (for example, d = displacement/distance has been modified to d = displacement or distance).

The 2006 edition of the Physical Setting/Physics Reference Tables is also available on the Office of State Assessment’s web site at http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/osa/scire/reftable.html.
