Directions The purpose of the Test Samplers is to prepare
students for taking the New York State English as a Second Language Test
(NYSESLAT), so they will be familiar with the types of questions that
will appear on the test. There are five NYSESLAT Test Samplers with
Directions for Administration for students in grades K-1, 2-4, 5-6, 7-8,

The Teaching of Language Arts to LEP/ELLS: Learning Standards for English
as a Second Language
These standards serve as the foundation for ESL curriculum, instruction,
and assessment for all
LEP/ELLs in NYS, grades Pre-K through 12. The NYS ESL learning
standards also serve as the
framework for the NYS ESL Achievement Test (NYSESLAT), which is
administered annually to all
LEP/ELLs in New York.
