The New York State
Summer School of the Arts
Tuition and Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Placement in the schools are reserved for New York State residents who meet the selection criteria.  If there are remaining openings after this selection, they may be filled by out-of-state students who meet additional criteria.

  • You must be enrolled in grades 8 through 12.

  • You must audition for the NYSSSA School you wish to attend. This audition is completed in person at a regional audition site, through a portfolio review, or in certain instances, through a video or audiotape review.

  • NYSSSA applications can be found on this web site. Forms may be duplicated. You may also receive forms by contacting NYSSSA directly.

Tuition Requirements:

  • Tuition for the schools ranges from $1,100 to $1,500 for residencies from two to four weeks long. State funds keep these tuitions considerably lower than the actual program costs.

  • Students are selected for the NYSSSA schools without regard to their financial need. Tuition assistance forms are mailed to each student who is offered acceptance or alternate status for each program. NYSSSA awards financial assistance based upon individual need.

  • Tuition assistance is limited to New York State residents.
