NYSSSA 2009 Scholarship Recipients
The Allentown Village Society Scholarships are
awarded annually by the Buffalo area organization to Erie County students
attending the School of Visual Arts. Recipients are: Taylor Anderson and David
Monat, Gowanda High School, Alissa Bailey, Grand Island Senior HS, Quinn Bolewicki,
Buffalo Academy of Visual & Performing
Arts, Sarah Cleversley,
West Seneca HS, Emily Stilwell, Amherst Central HS, David Virgil, Buffalo
Academy of Sciences, Casey Cecere and Brandon Fridmann, Lancaster HS.
The Joseph L. Bruno Scholarship was established in 1999 for students attending the New York State Summer School of Orchestral Studies. This year's $1,500 recipient is Monica Bendernagel, oboist from Arlington High School. |

The Senator John A. DeFrancisco Young Artist Program is dedicated to advancing the professional goals of aspiring talented young people by providing limited financial assistance administered by the Cultural Resources Council. This year, scholarships were awarded to
The F. Ludwig Diehn Scholarships, in
the amount of $750, have been established to honor the memory of Mr. Diehn
who was an eminent composer and special friend of the New York State Summer
School of the Arts School of Orchestral Studies. This year's School of Orchestral
Studies recipients are: Zach Brett,
Centereach HS, Rachel Susser, Poughkeepsie HS, Alicia Friedrichs, Fayetteville-Manlius
Senior HS, Jessica Dolnick, Orchard Park HS, Victoria Garcia, Baldwin Senior
HS, Catherine Klapheke, C.W. Baker HS and Daniel Parrette, Cornwall Central
HS.

The Mary Catherine Hobbs Scholarship, in the amount of $150, has been established to honor the memory of Mary Catherine Hobbs by her father Dr. Robert Gibbs, retired professor at the Crane School of Music and is reserved for cellists in the School of Orchestral Studies. This year's recipient is Rachele Prawdzik, South Colonie HS. |
The Nassau Music Educators Association (Durrell Blank Scholarship), a county unit of the New York State School Music Association and the Music Educators National Conference, supports educational and musical experiences for students of Nassau County on Long Island, and provides annual scholarships to students attending the Schools of Music of the New York State Summer School of the Arts. This year's recipients are: School of Orchestral Studies students Victoria Garcia, Baldwin Senior HS, and Joshua Epstein, North Shore Senior HS, Jacqueline Levine, Plainview Old Bethpage/JFK HS, Emily and Nicholas Mervosh, W. Tresper Clarke HS, and School of Choral Studies students Taylor Friedman and Aaron Mor, Great Neck South HS.
New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA),
a not-for-profit educational organization whose mission is to advocate and
improve the education of music in all people in New York State by promoting
appropriate musical activities and programs in the schools and communities
of New York State, makes annual awards to students in the Schools of Jazz,
Choral, and Orchestral Studies. This year's recipients are:

memory of Mr. Robb who was the first president of the Saratoga
Performing Arts Center. The $750 scholarship was
