2010 School of Choral Studies: July 4 th - July 31st
Listen to an excerpt from the School of Choral Studies final performance
Experience the joy of singing, the thrill of performing, and the power
of choral music with other talented students and a superb artistic faculty
during four weeks of intensive vocal two and musical instruction at the School
of Choral Studies.
A nationally acclaimed choral conductor and artist faculty will provide you with an excellent music education and daily instruction in choral singing and comprehensive musicianship. You will study private voice and have the opportunity (as assigned by faculty) to participate in musical theater and opera scenes, stagecraft and movement, small ensembles, and voice recitals
You will perform with the NYSSSA Chorale in the magnificent King Concert Hall at the Rockefeller Center for the Arts at SUNY Fredonia and in the Amphitheater at the famous Chautauqua Institution.
You will be housed on the attractive Fredonia campus and use the excellent facilities of the music department, as well as other academic and recreational areas. In addition to a rigorous program in choral studies, you will enjoy a variety of cultural activities, including concerts, opera and theater performances at the Chautauqua Institution, as well as master classes and workshops by guest artists.
The School of Choral Studies is co-sponsored by SUNY Fredonia and the New York State School Music Association, and is administered by the New York State Education Department. Music educators are encouraged to visit the school and observe all aspects of the program.

For your audition, you'll be asked to perform a prepared vocal selection to demonstrate your technical and musical abilities. (A folk song, art song, or standard vocal literature is preferred.) You must supply your own accompaniment. Sight-reading of standard vocal literature will be included as part of your audition.
If you intend to participate in the statewide audition process, you should complete and return the application form as soon as possible. Upon receipt of your form, complete information about the audition locations, schedules, and times will be mailed to you.
Tuition and Financial Aid

The entire cost of attending the School of Choral Studies, including tuition, instruction, room, and board is $1,750.
NYSSSA's summer programs are open to all New York State students currently enrolled in grades 8 through 12 who qualify through the audition process. Tuition, room, and board costs should not discourage any talented young artist from auditioning. A student who auditions is under no obligation to attend and every effort will be made to allocate suitable financial aid.
We want any talented young artist who is accepted through our audition process, regardless of his or her ability to pay for the school, to be able to attend, so tuition assistance is available. Tuition assistance forms are mailed to students after the audition process. NYSSSA awards financial assistance based upon individual need.
