Technical Considerations for Submission to the Web

  • A floppy disk containing the complete learning experience must accompany a hard copy of the learning experience. The disk should be labeled with the title of the learning experience, teacher(s)’ name, the word processing program used and title for each attachment, if any.
  • It is preferred that you use Microsoft Word. If Microsoft Word is not available, submit your material in an ASCII text file. For the purpose of the web site, please do not use a CD-ROM as a means of storing your learning experience. Student work does not have to be on a disc.
  • For links to websites, provide a complete URL address.
  • The preferred font is Arial and the preferred type size is 12.
  • Do not indent the first line of a paragraph or use the space bar to align text.
  • Do not underline or put words in italics.
  • Use bold if highlighting or underlining is needed.
  • Highlight, using bold, keywords and phrases; use meaningful subheadings; use bulleted lists; use one idea per paragraph; and be succinct.
  • Carefully proofread for the purpose of correcting all spelling and punctuation errors. It is expected that "spell check" be used to assist in proofing the learning experience.
  • Carefully review the learning experience to assure that it does not include information that could lead to the identity of students. Examples of items that should not appear in the learning experience are:
The full names of students.
The names of students (first or last) with corresponding pictures.
The school building name with corresponding picture of students.
The phone numbers and/or addresses of students.
  • When teacher or student work is included in the learning experience in the form of pictures, charts, diagrams, etc., the quality of the original work must be good to excellent.
  • A copy of an original picture must be sufficiently dark in order to scan well.
  • The scanning process performed by the web team should not require improving the quality of the original work in order to improve the quality of the scanned work
  • You should allow the web team to perform all necessary scanning of documents and pictures.

Original student work must be submitted. If the work is in pencil, it must be dark in order to scan. Do not submit work teacher or student work on colored background, including colored 3 X 5 cards, construction paper, and pastel Xerox paper. For erasures (such as the elimination of student last names) use White Out rather than crossing out with ink or markers. If audio or videotapes are submitted, please send a clip of no more than a 20 seconds which best represents the student(s)' work.
  • Prior to submission, secure all permissions from the appropriate sources for articles and other published resources used as part of the learning experience. When necessary, full credit of authorship must appear in the learning experience. It is the Academy’s assumption that no copyright violations have taken place in the preparation of learning experiences submitted to the Academy.
  • All the required signatures on the attached permission form must be secured and the form must be included in your submission packet. The signatures provide permission to the Academy to place the learning experience on the Academy web site. These signatures also allow others to access the learning experiences from the web site.
