College French 12HAV Madame Munson 1996-1997

Choose a French work of art which dates from the Middle Ages and write a composition about it and prepare to discuss it with your classmates. You will be asked to act as a docent, or lecturer, at our Musée Médiéval, where you will present your work of art to small groups of students visiting the museum. The students will be required to write a short report about the works of art they study, and they will be relying on you to provide them with the information they need for their report.

Your work will be judged successful if you succeed in communicating in French to the students how elements of your work of art teach us about the life and times of the Middle Ages. In order to do this you will need to be able to describe in detail the social, economic and spiritual life during this period. You will need to give specific examples of how your work of art communicates visually the history and life of the period.

1. Look through the materials provided and select a work of art which interests and intrigues you.

2. Read about this work of art in the books on reserve and in encyclopedias at the Library.

3. Use the CD-ROMs "Le Louvre," and the "LAROUSSE Multimédia Encyclopédique" to further research your work of art and the time period in which it was created.

4. Use the Internet to continue your research. Make note of interesting web sites that you find.

5. Review the packets and readings handed out in class for further information on the period.
