Good Communication Skills: What's in it for me?
Instructional/Environmental Modifications
The procedures used to accommodate the range of abilities in the classroom, including students with disabilities, limited English proficiency, or bilingual students:

To accommodate the range of disabled students, ESL students, and bilingual students in the classroom, the following modifications can be made:

-special education and/or the ESL teacher to assist with the interpretation of terminology and written assignments
-written assignments can be in outline or list form (or can be given verbally)
-more non-verbal clueing for the special education student, to make them aware information is coming from other students rather than just the teacher
-increased time for the rough and final drafts
-rearrange students seating to allow special education students better viewing and access to the teacher
-additional time with the special education student to support the learning process
    - communication test is formatted to help special education students to read and answer the questions
    - specific tasks designed to meet the IEP recommendations for special education and the level of understanding for the ESL student
