**Program Description**

The overall goal of the Extended School Day in Community School District 31 is to provide a comprehensive program for violence prevention through the arts and technology for at-risk students in four of our lowest performing middle school: IS 27, IS 49, IS 51, and IS 61. The program will combine strategies:

• To enhance students' self-esteem through academic success
• To provide assertiveness training for adolescents through the creative expression of idea and talents
• To train students in technique of conflict resolution though drama
• To improve literacy skills through the integration of writing and technology
• To develop math and science higher order thinking skills through robotics and engineering
• To foster creative expression through music composition and improvisation using computer technology
