**Program Description**

The community school District 30 Extended School Day and Violence Prevention Program has been carefully designed by representatives of the school-based Leadership Teams at each of the four school sites and staff from the following collaborators:

  • Leadership Programs, Inc.- Leadership program promoting responsibility and self-esteem
  • Education & Industry Partnership-School-to-work program
  • Every Person Influences Children (EPIC) -Parent Programming
  • Learning Through An Expanded Arts Program (LEAP)- Extended Day Arts Program.

The four target schools were selected on the basis of their School in Need of Improvement status; levels of incidents and pupil suspensions; level of parent participation; poverty levels; size of the enrollment; and a review of other programs operative at each site.

Leadership Program, Inc. will implement two units of its proven effective Leadership Program (a sixteen-component initiative that focuses on goal orientation, personal and social responsibility, and conflict resolution) at all sites. Education & Industry Partnership will provide school-to-work training at the middle school site. Every person Influences Training will provide parent engagement activities at four sites, all of which have extremely low parent participation. Learning Through An Expanded Arts Program, Inc. (LEAP) will provide the four target schools with standards-based arts educational services after school; the programming will stress the development of art projects tied to school day literacy services.

Services will be evaluated using formative protocols (e.g., counts of participant) as well as post-program testing using validated instruments developed by the Leadership Program, Inc.
