**Program Description**

The Community School District 14 Extended School Day and Violence Prevention Program was planned by school representatives working in close collaboration with staff from the following agencies:

  • The Leadership Program, Inc
  • The Singers Forum
  • New York University - Creative Arts Team
  • Metropolitan Athletic Congress
  • Latinos for A Better Brooklyn

The four target schools were selected on the basis of their Priority Status; high levels of suspensions and incidents; limited extended school day opportunities; low attendance and academic achievement levels; the need to engage parents in the education of their children; high levels of poverty; and other community factors.

The target schools will receive programs involving vocal music (Singers Forum), structured recreation (Metropolitan Athletic Congress), nonviolent conflict resolution (The Leadership Program, and New York University Creative Arts Team) and parent engagement services (Latinos for a Better Brooklyn). All services are designed to help pupils learn challenging standards-based content in the core curriculum areas.

The proposed project will be evaluated using formative protocols (e.g., counts of participants) as well as hard data on number of suspensions, incidents, achievement levels, attendance, et al.
