**Program Description**
The mission of the Campus Magnet High Schools anti-Violence Extended Day program is to educate, encourage and support students, parents, staff and residents of our community before and after the school day. Through the various services and academic programs offered, we seek to promote academic excellence, parental involvement, social awareness and understanding of others.
Academic Programs
- PM School will service approximately 600 juniors and seniors who need credit accumulation to meet graduation requirements
- Saturday morning regents preparatory classes. AM and PM tutoring for 250 students to develop Regents standards skills
- PSAT/SAT I & II/ACT preparation for 80 students
- Skill streaming program will support practical academic skills for 100 students
- Adult education evening programs for 750 community residents
Anti-Violence Programs
- Community Mediation will train an additional 40 student Peer Mediators, 2 additional Deans, interested staff members, and parents in mediation and negotiation skills
- Recreation Program will provide positive emotional outlets and develop healthy bodies for 1000 students and 2000 community residents
Attendance and Guidance Outreach and Support
- Five Guidance Counselors and four Family Workers will be available in the evening and on Saturdays to follow up on attendance and academic issues and meet with students and families to develop positive time management skills. In addition, counselors will assist in the academic review of student progress for 200 students
Life Skills Programs
- S.P.A.R.K. - will address substance abuse with 100 students
- L.Y.F.E. - will address teen parenting issues with 200 students
- Parent Empowerment Program (P.E.P.) - will address parent/student/family issues with 50 at risk families. This program is in collaboration with outside agencies and the New York City Police Department.
- Youth Employment Program (Y.E.P.) - will address student social issues with 50 at risk youth. This program also is in collaboration with outside agencies including New York City Police Department.
School-to-Career Program - Lifeguard Certification Program will train 25 young adults for Lifeguard Certification and employment in NYC pools and beaches.
Recreational Program - Expand participation in team activities that develop self-confidence, foster teamwork and sportsmanship. The program is geared towards strengthening the mind and body.
