Description
Champions
Club After-School Program
Sports
& Arts in Schools Foundation provides free after-school
services to underserved communities and operates over 70 Champions
Clubs in New York City public schools in all five boroughs. The
SASF flagship program, each Champions Club combines sports, arts
and academic activities between 3pm to 6pm throughout the school
year. With ESD/VP funding, SASF operates eight comprehensive
Champions Clubs at the public schools listed below. By design,
Champions Clubs offer an integrated mix of sports and arts
activities tied to academic assistance, providing positive
alternatives for students during the critical time when school is
not in session. Students receive academic enrichment,
individualized tutoring, homework help, technology skills
training, project-based literacy and math activities,
skills-building sports and literacy-based arts instruction,
conflict mediation skills training, health, safety and wellness
workshops, and cultural and educational trips. Parent
participation activities are incorporated into the overall design,
including after-school trips, parenting workshops, and Parent
Involvement Initiative.
Goal
#1:
To increase opportunities for students to participate in
structured, skills- building sports and arts activities, designed

Goal
#2:
To establish a safe space for children during the vulnerable
after- school hours of 3pm to 6pm under the guidance of caring
adults and positive peer role models.
Goal
#3:
To improve student academic achievement through tutoring, homework
help and project- based learning activities built around problem
solving, listening, speaking, critical thinking, and communication
skills.
Goal
#4:
To involve parents and families as partners in their children's
education through parenting workshops, the Parent Involvement
Initiative, Parents Club and participation in trips, activities
and culminating events.
Goal
#5:
To strengthen the comprehensive safe schools plan with
school administrations and staff to ensure student safety in and
around the schools.
Goal
#6:
To raise awareness about health and wellness in the
community through a Community Health Fair to address issues about
physical, mental and emotional health of youth.
