Periwinkle National Theatre
Periwinkle recently received funding from the Extended School Day/ School Violence Prevention Grant in the 2007-2008 fiscal year.
There are currently two components to their program:
The first component is for second grade students, which is called "The magic words of poetry". In this program the students focus on choral speaking, creative movement and positive social skills. Each class learns a poem that requires them to speak with projection, articulation and expression. An emphasis is created on movement and pantomines to coincide with events in the poem and develop kinesthetic awareness.
The second component is a playmaking program called "Springboard theatre" in this class students devise dramatic presentations based on a theme chosen by their teachers. They are taught to use problem solving, collaboration and teamwork to develop original dialogues and monologues that illuminate a literal text.
