Metro International's Global Classroom uniquely prevents school violence by engaging New York City high school students in face-to-face activities with Global Guides (international students from around the world). Program Objectives Supports school safety and violence prevention initiatives by fostering cultural understanding, breaking down prejudice, and contributing to a peaceful school environment. Enriches students' knowledge and understanding of cultures that are different from their own, with an emphasis on geography, world history, culture, foreign languages, arts, dance, and other subjects. Builds self - esteem and tolerance by emphasizing the value of all people and their different customs, physical appearances, accents, religions, or food preferences. Prepares youth with the communication skills, global perspectives, leadership skills, and education necessary to become active citizens in the 21st century. Inspires students' to think about their larger community and the world and how they can make a difference. Improves students' skills in the areas of group discussion, literacy, and cooperation. Advances teachers' ability to incorporate awareness, understanding, and appreciation of other countries and cultures into their ongoing work with students.
