Metro International's Global Classroom uniquely prevents school violence by engaging
New York City high school students in face-to-face activities with Global Guides
(international students from around the world).

Program Objectives

• Supports school safety and violence prevention initiatives by fostering cultural understanding, breaking down prejudice, and contributing to a peaceful school environment.

• Enriches students' knowledge and understanding of cultures that are different from their own, with an emphasis on geography, world history, culture, foreign languages, arts, dance, and other subjects.

• Builds self - esteem and tolerance by emphasizing the value of all people and their different customs, physical appearances, accents, religions, or food preferences.

• Prepares youth with the communication skills, global perspectives, leadership skills, and education necessary to become active citizens in the 21st century.

• Inspires students' to think about their larger community and the world and how they can make a difference.

• Improves students' skills in the areas of group discussion, literacy, and cooperation.

• Advances teachers' ability to incorporate awareness, understanding, and appreciation of other countries and cultures into their ongoing work with students.
