ENACT at The Young Scholars Academy

ENACT's mission is to help New York City public school students, their families, and school staff learn social emotional and crucial life skills through creative drama and drama therapy techniques. Our teaching artists (who are professional actors trained in our method) engage in interactive classroom based activities and specialized role-play, to help motivate students to become more productive in school and in their lives.  Our research-based work has proven extremely successful with even the most highly resistant and acting-out students.

ENACT uses drama and drama therapy based activities to help students find and express their own voice on the road to emotional integration and personal growth.  We do this through teaching awareness of feelings and behavior while addressing choices, responsibility, and consequences. Our workshops use drama as a vehicle to help participants become more self-aware.  We do not teach acting, but instead we use the art of performance and other theatrical crafts to build social and emotional resiliency and foster positive attitudinal and behavioral change.

The ENACT curriculum is designed to create behavioral change while focusing on both the individual and the group dynamic.  ENACT utilizes activities based in self-esteem building, recognizing and naming the emotional core of behavior, and open discussion of choices for behavior.  Acknowledging Responsibility, Choice, and Consequences is the basis of all lesson plans.

All ENACT workshops are tailored to the specific needs of the students, teachers and schools that we are working with.

ENACT designed the following residency for Young Scholars Academy:
     > Two 8 Session Student Residencies
     >
Two Auditorium Performances
     > 1 Professional Development Workshop
