ANNOUNCEMENT OF INFORMATIONAL SESSIONS:

NEW YORK STATE UNIVERSAL  PREKINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

FIRST TIME APPLICANTS ONLY

 

 The New York State Legislature has made an additional $50 million available for expansion of the state’s Universal Prekindergarten Program (UPK).  As a result, 60 school districts are eligible to apply for UPK funding for the first time for 2006-2007.  In addition, there are approximately 25 school districts that were eligible for a UPK base grant in 2005-2006 that have not yet applied and may wish to do so in 2006-2007.

 

In order to facilitate the process for districts, applying for the UPK funding for the first time, early childhood associates from the New York State Education Department’s Office of Early Education and Reading Initiatives will be holding informational sessions at three locations in early May.   Each session will cover:

 

 

Who should attend?

 

·       School Districts that are eligible for UPK funding for the first time in 2006-2007 (Supplemental Grant)

·      School Districts that were previously eligible for UPK (Base Grant) and are first applying in 2006 -2007
