The Community Place of Greater Rochester has provided supplemental services to youth in the Northeast quadrant of Rochester for over one hundred years, stemming from its beginnings as three settlement houses. Students at both Dr. Freddie Thomas High School and Frederick Douglass Preparatory School have benefited from the surround care services provided by CPGR.

Direct instructional methods for reading and math will be used in practice lessons. Lessons will be delivered at the instructional level supported by guided practice. Independent practice will incorporate the students’ learning modalities and it will focus on application of skills. Computer-based instruction will supplement the direct instruction delivered for each lesson and unit.

Qualifications of the service provider(s)/instructor(s):

Each tutor will be a New York State Certified Teacher. Homework assistance will be provided by qualified staff.

Bi-weekly written reports will be provided to the parent(s)/guardian(s). Teachers of enrolled students will be given bi-weekly progress reports.

The Community Place of Greater Rochester is a host site for the Dare to Care Program sponsored by the Rochester City School District, providing recreational activities, home economics, arts and crafts, computer literacy, tutoring assistance, and life skills training to students of Dr. Freddie Thomas High School.
