NCLB Accountability
Federal "No Child Left Behind" (NCLB) legislation
requires New York State to implement a system of accountability for schools and districts
that is designed to ensure that all children perform at or above proficiency on
challenging state academic achievement standards and state assessments. By January 2003,
the Department must submit to the U.S. Department of Education a plan for meeting the
accountability provisions of NCLB.
