Accountability, Policy and Administration
The Accountability, Policy and Administration team under School Improvement and Community Services-NYC has responsibility for developing policies, implementing regulations, providing technical assistance to schools and districts relating to federal and state accountability systems, monitoring persistently dangerous schools, coordinating family partnerships, and working with New York City Department of Education on various educational issues. This team also oversees the chartering process for New York City charter schools and monitors performance of over 70 charter schools in New York City. Additionally, the team has responsibility for ensuring that the Department complies with the accountability provisions of the federal No Child Left Behind Act and Chapter 57 of the Laws of 2007.
Some of the programs this office administers are: The self-assessment process, registration of new schools, generation of High Performing/Rapidly Improving school list, identification of SURR schools, contracts for excellence, charter school teacher certification evaluation and the transition to the new differentiated accountability system.
