Please use the above table to identify the accountability criteria and disaggregated groups for which the school will use Contract for Excellence funds to close the achievement gap and the percent of the targeted gap reduction. In Column 1, the following accountability criteria may be entered:  Grade 3-8 English language arts, Grade 3-8 mathematics, high school English language arts, high school mathematics, elementary-middle science, and graduation rate.  In Column 2, the following disaggregated groups may be entered: All students, Asian, Black, Hispanic, Multicultural, Native American, White, Limited English proficient, low-income, and students with disabilities.  In Column 3, enter the targeted percentage by which the school intends to close the gap between a Performance Index of 200 and the school’s Performance Index in 2006-07 for the specified accountability criterion and disaggregated group.

 

The identified accountability criteria and disaggregated groups should be focused on those for which the school has failed to make Adequate Yearly Progress in past years.  The specified percent gap reduction should be a minimum of ten percent. Please add additional rows as needed if the school will target more eight disaggregated groups.

 

If Contract for Excellence funds are not being targeted to help a school demonstrate gap reduction on an accountability criterion in 2007-08 (for example, implementation of all day pre-kindergarten programs or reduction of class sizes in grades K-2 will not have an immediate impact on AYP in 2007-08), please use the table on the following page to indicate the achievement targets for these funds.

Criteria

Response for  James A. Farley Middle School, Haverstraw Middle School, Willow Grove Middle School Fieldstone Secondary School, North Rockland High School

 

Goal

 

To increase literacy and numeracy skills in the middle and secondary grades by offering academic intervention during the instructional day and by providing additional time on task through Read 180 academic support reading program and criterion reference writing support technology programs delivered by highly qualified teachers.  In addition students will be afforded extended day programs in ELA and Math.

 

Target Population

 

All students designated to be at-risk as defined by a failure to attain level 3 or 4 on the NYS ELA or Math assessments in grades 5-8 or by a passing NYS Regents score on Math A or the  English Regents.

 

Indicators of Progress and Measure

 

Students scoring at proficiency levels on quarterly ELA and Math formative assessments and by achieving a level 3 or 4 on NYS assessments or Regents.

 

Timeline

 

September 2007    Ô     June 2008

 

Target

 

There will be a 10% increase of students scoring at level 3 on State assessments or passing rate on Regents.

 

 

 

 

 

Criteria

Response for Gerald F. Neary Elementary, North Garnerville Elementary, Stony Point Elementary, Thiells Elementary and West Haverstraw Elementary

 

Goal

 

To increase literacy and numeracy skills in the elementary grades which will provide the foundation for secondary learning in high school by offering academic intervention services during the day and extended day programs delivered via direct instruction and technology embedded instruction

 

Target Population

 

At-risk students who have scored below the proficiency level in grade 2 Terra Nova and Grades 3 and 4 NYS ELA and Math Assessments.

 

Indicators of Progress and Measure

 

Students will score at a proficiency rate as measured by monthly formative assessments in ELA and Math and score a level 3 or 4 as measured on NYS assessments.

 

Timeline

 

October 2007    Ô     June 2008

 

Target

 

An increase of 10% of students who are below proficiency will meet proficiency.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Criteria

 

Response for North Garnerville Elementary – Class Size Reduction

 

Goal

 

To provide more student to teacher contact by providing an additional first grade teacher to lower class size from 30 students per 1st grade class to 22 students.

 

Target Population

 

All first grade students inclusive of students with disabilities, ELL learners, students with 504 programs and students from free and reduced lunch background.

 

Indicators of Progress and Measure

 

Students will be reading at a DRA level of 20 by end of grade 1.

 

 

Timeline

 

October 2007    Ô     June 2008

 

 

 

Criteria

 

Response for Gerald F. Neary Elementary, North Garnerville Elementary and Thiells Elementary

 

Goal

 

To continue to support literacy development for at-risk students via the delivery of Reading Recovery academic intervention.

 

Target Population

 

At-risk students in grade 1 as identified by Marie Clay’s observation checklist.  This group also includes LEP students.

 

Indicators of Progress and Measure

 

Students exit the program based on the reading score on DRA scales out of Ohio University and Marie Clay’s observation checklist.

 

Timeline

 

Reading Recovery students have a 20 week program that lasts half a year before exiting.

 

Target

 

100% of all student serviced should exit out.
