Instructions for updating your STEP software from a version prior to 3.02

"x" is used in these instructions to represent the most recent version of STEP available.  Always make a back-up copy of your data (STEP_202B.mdb or STEP_300B.mdb or STEP_301B.mdb) prior to updating your software.  If you are importing STEP_202B.mdb, make sure your data is error free in STEP_205F before importing into STEP_30xF system.

Please note: If you already have a STEP_302B.mdb file, you are not updating your STEP software from a version prior to 3.02 and should need a new front end only to update your software.  You can get a new front end simply by downloading the User Interface into your current STEP working folder.

Beginning with version 3.02 we are supplying a new back end version 3.02B.  All users who are updating from a version prior to 3.02 will need to download a complete package of the software.  Directions for the download of this version and import of your existing data from prior versions are located below.

Suggested update procedure:
1.  Create a new working folder.
2.  Download version 30xF (choose one of the three options in the software section below) into your new working folder (you will need both the new front and back ends of the database).  If you choose:

• the self-extracting executable, rename STEP_30x.bin to STEP_30x.exe, click on the renamed file and save the resulting files to your new working folder.
• the zip file, you will need unzip software (e.g., WinZip) to install STEP.
• the mdb's, you will need to download each piece of the database separately into the same folder.

3.  Open the 30xF database.
4.  Make a copy of your old back end (STEP_202B.mdb) and place it in the new working folder.
5.  In STEP_30xF.mdb, log in as your district.
6.  Import the old back end using the STEP DB option on the Import Tab or generate an .spn export from an earlier version of STEP and use the Export SPD option.

1. As a self-extracting executable	STEP_305.exe
2. As a zip file:	STEP_305.zip
3. As mdb(s):	User Interface Data Storage

Notes:

1. This file is posted as a "bin" file.  Don't forget to change the filename extension back to "exe" before saving the file.
