Instructions for updating your STEP software from a version prior to 0.98

Always make a back-up copy of your data (STEP_100B.mdb or STEP_101.mdb) prior to updating your software.

Please note: If you already have a STEP_101B.mdb file, you are not updating your STEP software from a version prior to 0.98 and should not use these instructions for updating your software.  Please return to the STEP home page and download only the new front end (STEP_1043F.mdb).

Beginning with version 0.98 we are supplying a new back end version 1.01B.  All users who are updating from a version prior to 0.98 will need to download a complete package of the software.  Directions for the download of this version and import of your existing data from prior versions are located below.

Suggested update procedure:

1.  Create a new working folder.
2.  Download version 1.043 (choose one of the three options in the software section below) into your new working folder (you will need both the new front and back ends of the database).  If you choose:

• the self-extracting executable, rename STEP_1043.bin to STEP_1041.exe, click on the renamed file and save it to your new working folder.
• the zip file, you will need a copy of the Winzip software to install STEP.
• the mdb's, you will need to download each piece of the database separately into the same folder.

3.  Open the 1043F database. (If you are using a version of Microsoft Access later than Access97, you will be asked if you wish to convert the database.  Choose the conversion option, rename the file and save it to your new working folder.  An example of your new filename might be STEP_1043F_2K.mdb.  Once you have successfully converted the front end, you can delete the downloaded copy of the front end (STEP_1043F.mdb).)  If you do not have a previous version of STEP, your download is now complete.  Please refer to the STEP manuals for information on using the software.
4.  Make a copy of your old back end (STEP_100B.mdb) and place it in the new working folder.
5.  In STEP_1043F.mdb, log in as your district.
6.  Import the old back end using the STEP DB import option.

1. As a self-extracting executable	STEP_1043.exe
2. As a zip file:	STEP_1043.zip
3. As mdb(s):	User Interface Data Storage

Notes:

1. This file is posted as a "bin" file.  Don't forget to change the filename extension back to "exe" before saving the file.
2. If you have an unzip program installed
