A Technical Assistance Workshop for LEAs outside of New York City will be held by the State Education Department at Chancellor's Hall in Albany on January 29, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. Registration will begin at 11:00 a.m. All LEAs outside of New York City with schools in need of improvement, corrective action and restructuring should plan to have a representative attend the meeting. The workshop will address the requirements for LEAs with designated schools and the assistance that will be available to support school improvement efforts.
NCLB requires that the Department advise all LEAs with 2007-08 identified schools of the Title I accountability requirements under Section 1116. Information will be provided regarding the NCLB requirements, including required set-asides, school choice, supplemental educational services, parental/guardian notifications, data collection for reporting requirements, and Comprehensive Educational Plans. LEAs will also be notified of their eligibility for Title I School Improvement Grants and application requirements.
LEAs identified as Districts in Need of Improvement (with no identified schools)
are not required to attend this workshop. They will be contacted separately
regarding NCLB requirements and the technical assistance available.
Pre-registration is advised to ensure that participants will receive handouts
at the workshop. Only one complete set of handouts will be available
for each LEA. To pre-register, call (518) 473-0295 by January 22, 2008.
