The Principals’ Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education is an organization dedicated to the personal and professional development of school principals and the many other stakeholders who crucially influence the character and quality of schools. The Principals’ Center is offering a demanding and rewarding Institute planned for summer 2007. The Institute has assembled an outstanding cadre of Harvard faculty, educational consultants, and school practitioners for an intensive nine-days of professional development. The Institute, “Leadership: An Evolving Vision” will be held in July 12 – July 20, 2007. The institute is designed to refine and strengthen the skills necessary for effective school leadership. The benefits of attending are:
Investigate ways to transform theory into practice for improving student achievement.
Develop the instructional leadership and management skills necessary for today’s complex educational environment.
Learn how to effectively support staff as they work on school improvement efforts.
Learn how to implement and evaluate curriculum innovations.
Consider the importance of student identity in creating a climate and achievement for all students.
Examine the foundations of successful negotiation.
Explore ways to collaborate with outside organizations
and use current resources more effective.
The Institute includes a variety of teaching and learning formats to ensure that participants derive the maximum benefit from their interactions with faculty and each other. This structure includes:
Large group presentations
Follow-up activities
Process groups
Reflective writing
Independent reading
Team building
The New York State Education Department (SED) will award
seven (7) grants in the amount of
$5,469 per Principal. As follows:
Tuition: $2,895. (includes all sessions, instructional materials, special events, refreshments and a one-year membership in The Principals’ Center).
Accommodation: $2,079. (The Charles Hotel for 9 nights = $231.00 per night, this amount includes taxes, gratuity and daily breakfast).
Travel and meals Expenses: $495.
Completed cover page, program narrative, superintendent’s statement of assurance, Principal’s statement of assurance, application (including requested essay) and FS-10 budget form must be submitted and postmarked by April 9, 2007 to the New York State Education Department’s address listed below:
