Title VI, Part B - Rural Education Achievement Program
Rural, Low-Income Schools Program
2006-2007

The list below identifies 36 local educational agencies (LEAs) eligible for funding in 2006-2007 under the REAP – Rural, Low Income Schools Program.  Eligibility and allocations are determined by the State Education Department based on requirements set forth in the NCLB legislation.

How LEAs Become Eligible for the Program:
  • An LEA is eligible for the Rural and Low Income Schools Program if 20 percent or more of the children ages 5 through 17 years served by the LEA are from families with incomes below the poverty line and all of the schools in the LEA have been designated with a locale code of 6, 7, or 8.  The poverty data and the local codes are provided by the U.S. Department of Education.
How the Title VI, Part B Allocations are Calculated:
  • Each LEA's allocation is based on that LEA's average daily attendance (from Department State Aid data) compared to the total average daily attendance for all LEAs in the State that are eligible for this program.

Total Amount Available for Allocation in 2006-07: $1,490,924
  • This is a decrease of more than 8 percent from 2005-06.

Questions about the Rural, Low-Income Schools Program may be directed to the Office of Planning and Professional Development at nclbnys@mail.nysed.gov or (518) 473-7155.
