Can the grant monies be used to pay rent for an existing charter school facility?
Rent for an existing facility is not an allowable cost. The NY Education and Finance Laws specify that the purpose of the fund is to provide discretionary financial support for start-up costs and for costs associated with the acquisition, renovation, or construction of school facilities.
The Board of Regents is not the Charter Entity for my charter school. Should my charter school apply for State Stimulus funds through the NYS Education Department?
You should contact the State
University of New York Charter School Institute (SUNY CSI). The NYS Charter
School Stimulus Funds are allocated to both the NYS Education Department
(NYSED) and the SUNY CSI. The allocation to the NYSED is based on the number
of new schools for which it is the Charter Entity. Therefore, the NYSED
request for applications is intended for charter schools for which NYSED is
