New York State Charter School Stimulus Fund Grants
2006-2007

GA2006-02

Questions & Answers

Can the grant monies be used to pay rent for an existing charter school facility?

Rent for an existing facility is not an allowable cost. The NY Education and Finance Laws specify that the purpose of the fund is to provide discretionary financial support for start-up costs and for costs associated with the acquisition, renovation, or construction of school facilities.

The Board of Regents is not the Charter Entity for my charter school. Should my charter school apply for State Stimulus funds through the NYS Education Department?

You should contact the State University of New York Charter School Institute (SUNY CSI). The NYS Charter School Stimulus Funds are allocated to both the NYS Education Department (NYSED) and the SUNY CSI. The allocation to the NYSED is based on the number of new schools for which it is the Charter Entity. Therefore, the NYSED request for applications is intended for charter schools for which NYSED is the charter entity. The following is a link to SUNY CSI webpage, which has information about the SUNY CSI grant application: http://www.newyorkcharters.org/.
