Questions and Answers to the CAPE Grant

Q.        For Big New City Regions with many districts in the region what will the regions total budget be able to be in the child abduction prevention grant?

A.        As indicated, funding up to $10,000 per grant is available to school districts, consortium of school districts, or BOCES on a competitive basis.  If an application includes multiple schools, buildings or school districts the total grant cannot exceed $10,000.

Q.        If we apply as a consortium of school districts, could we be granted the maximum amount of funding per district or would it be as a BOCES?

A.        As indicated, funding up to $10,000 per grant is available to school districts, consortium of school districts, or BOCES on a competitive basis.  If an application includes multiple schools, buildings or school districts the total grant cannot exceed $10,000.

Q.        In Big New York City Regions with many districts in the region what total amount of funding will they be able to apply for?

A.        As indicated, funding up to $10,000 per grant is available to school districts, consortium of school districts, or BOCES on a competitive basis.  If an application includes multiple schools, buildings or school districts the total grant cannot exceed $10,000.

Q.        With the limit of $10,000, we’re wondering if that limit applies per district or per grant.  Can a consortium of 5 districts get up to $50,000?

A.        The maximum amount of $10,000 is per grant not per district.  The maximum grant amount for a consortium is also $10,000.

Q.        Since this is a curriculum development and training grant with a June 30 completion date, is it correct to read the deadline as the completion of both curriculum development and the training activities?  Given the late date and all the spring testing, finishing the training by June 30 can be a challenge.  Can the training come later and the curriculum development be completed this school year?

A.        Grantees will be required to encumber funds for all grant related activities by June 30, 2007.

Q.        How will NYC schools work?  Grants say 10K per district?  Does this mean every district needs to write a separate grant or can region just write RFP for 3-4 districts in region?

A.        The maximum amount of $10,000 is per grant not per district.  Regions can apply on behalf of multiple districts and can receive up to $10,000 per application.

Q.        What about BOCES?  Is their limit also $10,000?

A.        The maximum grant for which a BOCES can apply is $10,000.

Q.        Can curriculum materials be under purchased services?  What is the dollar limit for ordering curriculums?

A.        Supplies, materials and equipment less than $5,000 must be included in Code 45.  There is no dollar limit for ordering curriculums.

Q.        Will awards go to high need districts first?

A.        A scoring rubric will be used to rate applications.  None of the criteria include references to high need districts.

Q.        Should vendors send curriculums to the State Education Department so school districts don’t have to do this?

A.        No, applicants are responsible for providing the Department with all required information.

Q.        Do high need schools matter for the grant or do all districts qualify?  Will high needs be first to receive grant, then other school districts in this order?

A.        High need school districts will not receive preference for funding.

Q.        Is this funding restricted to New York Public Schools only?

A.        Eligible applicants include public school districts, BOCES, and consortia of public school districts.

Q.        Would Charter Schools or a consortium of charter schools be eligible for the Child Abduction Prevention Education Grant?

A.        Neither charter schools or consortia of charter schools are eligible for CAPE grants.
