Career and Technical Education Act (CTEA)
Incarcerated Education Questions and Answers
July 23, 2007
Question #1
Our jail has fewer than 70 inmates and generally five or six Incarcerated Youth
at any one time. Would a program that offered OSHA 10 Construction Safety
Certificates and Lead Awareness Certificates be eligible for this funding? It
would be combined with weekly Job Search Skills instruction on career interests,
occupational exploration, networking, nontraditional job search techniques,
filling out applications, creating a Resume, and how to succeed in an interview.
Due to the limited number of students, the OSHA instruction probably could not
be held more than six to eight times a year.
Answer #1
The purpose of the funding is to support requests to develop career pathways and
programs of study that result in the ability of the student to secure employment
in high wage, high skill, and high demand areas. The applicant should provide
compelling supportive documentation to show that programs requested for funding
meet this requirement. Page two of the application provides additional
information regarding ways to achieve the result previously mentioned.
