Workshop Purpose
The workshop purpose is to encourage school districts to test for radon. This testing can be accomplished by either working with an approved BOCES, an independent contractor or, for eligible schools, the New York State Department of Health. A goal of the workshop is to have BOCES and school district staff talk about the testing that needs to be done in individual schools.
Network
This workshop is a unique opportunity to network with BOCES staff about testing schools for radon. To start the network process, part of the workshop will be a working session where school district staff will be paired up with the BOCES representative that serves their district.
What to do when BOCES is not Available
If BOCES testing is not an option for your school and your school is in a high risk area, you should still come to the workshop. The New York State Department of Health has a grant to test schools for radon and your school may qualify for testing under the grant. Discussion will include what the grant provides, who is eligible and how to participate in the program.
