TIMELY AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Title I Application Supplement and Title I School Verification Report

Some districts have not submitted the Title I Application Supplement and Title I School Verification Report that was due to the Department by July 15, 2003. The Department must have this information to fulfill the federal requirement to identify the school accountability status of each public school before the beginning of the 2003-04 school year. If you do not submit this report by July 28, the Department will assume that the 2002-03 Title I status listed for each school is correct and the school will maintain the same status in 2003-04.

Failure to complete and return the Title I Verification Report may result in misidentification of schools in your district for improvement status. Once schools have been identified, no changes in accountability status will be made during this school year. A list of districts that have not submitted the required reports will be posted on July 24, 2003 at the following web site: http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/funding/cladcep/conslocapp200304.htm.

Please note that as a result of changes received from the USDOE on June 19, 2003, we have posted revised Title I allocations for LEAs and Charter School LEAs at:  http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/funding/cladcep/titleIallocs0304rev709.htm. New York State’s Title I allocation was reduced by approximately five million dollars, resulting in allocations for nearly every district showing some change. It is important for you to consider whether the revised allocation will result in a change in the designation of Title I buildings in the district. If so, it is imperative that you submit a revised Application Supplement and Title I Verification Report by Monday, July 28, 2003. If the change in allocation will not result in a change in the designation of buildings, DO NOT submit a revised Application Supplement or Title I Verification report.

Please fax the Title I Application Supplement and the Title I School Verification Report to Mr. Patrick O'Brien at (518) 402-5361 no later than July 28, 2003.

Finally, the Department is committed to providing districts that submit their completed Consolidated Application by August 15, 2003 an approval within 30 business days of receipt.

Questions about completing the 2003-04 Title I Application Supplement should be addressed to Mr. Roberto Reyes at (518)-473-0295 or rreyes@mail.nysed.gov. Questions about completing the Title I School Verification Report should be addressed to Mr. O'Brien at (518) 474-7965 or pobrien2@mail.nysed.gov
