June 2004 Regents Examinations.  Beginning with the June 2004 Regents examinations, all score conversion charts for Regents examinations will be posted to the website, rather than being included in the rating guides.  The conversion charts will be posted on the day each examination is given, at or after the universal admission deadline for each examination.  To find the charts during the June Regents examination period, go to http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/osa/; the link to the conversion charts will be prominently displayed, as will the link to the scoring information website.  Any questions about this policy or the conversion charts can be directed to emscassessinfo@mail.nysed.gov

Middle-Level Parent Program.  A New York Learns program, "Middle Schools Are In Transition," will be broadcast on public television stations on June 2 at 10:30 PM.  It takes a look at effective strategies that work in the Port Chester Middle School.  I visited the school and met with students and staff.  The program will be broadcast on the following stations: WSKG Ch 46 Binghamton; WNED Ch 17 Buffalo; WMHT Ch 17 Capital Region; WLIW Ch 21 Long Island; WXXI Ch 21 Rochester; WCNY Ch 24 Syracuse (Program airs at 10:00 pm); WPBS Ch 16 Watertown; and WCFE Ch 57 Plattsburgh.

Title I Basic Grant Allocations for New York State.  My News and Notes informational update this week included an alert relating to 2004-05 Title I basic grant allocations.  Our analysis of the USDOE's preliminary Title I allocations indicates that New York experienced population declines that may result in significant reductions in basic Title I grant funding for many districts.  As we receive more information from USDOE or in the event there is action by Congress, we will pass it along.
