11/16/06 - Use of Technology in Education:  The Board of Regents created a statewide Technology Policy and Practices Council to study the use of technology in education.  As part of this effort, the Metiri Group will be conducting random surveys of school districts and other members of the University of the State of New York.  Commissioner Mills urges all selected to participate in the survey process; a letter from him with additional information is available at http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/metirisurvey.htm.

12/1/05 - Learning Technology Grants, 2005-2006:  A total of $3.2 million in Learning Technology grants has been awarded to 67 local educational agencies.  The grants will support improved student achievement in mathematics and English language arts through integration of education technologies in classroom instruction. 5/5/2005 - 2005-2006 Learning Technology Grant Application:  The 2005-2006 grant application is now available at the web address listed below. This competitive grant program provides funds to enhance school capacity to implement the State learning standards through the use of instructional technology. The due date is July 8, 2005.

1/27/05 - 2004 - 2005 Statewide Learning Technology Grants Awarded - The Department has announced the Learning Technology Grant awards for this statewide competitive grant program. A total of $3.2 million of funding has been awarded to 66 local educational agencies across the State, which targets students in high need school districts that have been identified as schools in need of improvement. These dollars will support improved student achievement in mathematics and English language arts through integration of education technologies. 9/3/04 - Request for Public Comment:  The Department intends to submit a request to the U.S. Department of Education to extend the period of obligation for expending 2002-2003 Title II, Part D competitive funds for New York State's Enhancing Education Through Technology initiative until March 31, 2005.  The current end date for obligating 2002-03 funds is September 30, 2004.  

By federal legislation, all interested Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in New York State must be provided with the opportunity to comment on the Department's request for an extension.  Comments from LEAs must be received by the Department by September 3, 2004.

4/01/04 - 3-Year Grant Awards for Title II, Part D, NCLB, Enhancing Education Through Technology:  The New York State Education Department has announced the three-year grant awards for the Title II, Part D, NCLB, Enhancing Education Through Technology competitive grant program.   A total of $50 million in the first full year of funding has been awarded to 46 local educational agencies across New York State under this federal grant program, which targets students in high need school districts that have been identified as schools in need of improvement. These dollars will support improved student achievement in mathematics (Pre K - 12) and/or English language arts (Pre K- 12) with a particular focus on early literacy, Pre K - 3, through the effective integration of education technologies into curriculum and instructional practices.
