6/1/05 - Implementing the Three-Model Middle Level Education Strategy:  Application materials and guidance are available at the link below for school districts who are interested in implementing Model B, C-1 or C-2 of the Middle-Level Education Strategy beginning in September 2005.  The application materials are being posted initially in draft form. This allows the Department to solicit, for a one-week period (June 1-8, 2005), public comment on both the application forms and the rating rubrics, while also providing districts interested in submitting a proposal for implementation in September 2005 with the basic information and guidance they need to develop an application. Comments and reactions to the draft materials should be submitted by June 8, 2005, to nclbnys@mail.nysed.gov.

2/10/05 - Press Release:  Board of Regents Adopts Middle School Reform -  At its February meeting, the Board of Regents approved the proposed three-model strategy to implement the Regents Policy Statement on Middle-Level Education which was adopted by the Regents in July 2003.  The full press release is available at the following web address:

12/8/04 - Middle-Level Education - During its December 2004 meeting, the Board of Regents will discuss a revised strategy to implement the Regents policy statement on middle-level education. The State Education Department is seeking public comment regarding the revised strategy prior to submitting it to the Board in January 2005. The deadline for public comment is January 6, 2005. The revised strategy is available at:

5/13/04 - Middle-Level Education. At its May meeting, the Board of Regents will review a revised strategy for implementing the July 2003 Regents Policy Statement on Middle-Level Education. The revised strategy reflects input received from key constituency groups on a proposed strategy discussed by the Regents in February and March. The full report is available at the above link.

12/1/03 - NYC Public Hearing on Alternative Approaches to Implementation of the Regents Policy Statement on Middle-Level Education (Grades 5-8) - December 16, 2003 - Full information is available at above link.

7/2103 - Regents Policy Statement on Middle-Level Education:  On July 17, the Board of Regents approved its 2003 Regents Policy Statement on Middle-Level Education. In Phase Two of the Regents effort to strengthen and improve education in the middle grades, the Regents will review key areas in Commissioner's Regulations related to the middle grades. Public engagement on proposals for implementing the Policy Statement will be scheduled in fall 2003.

3/2003 - Draft Regents Policy Statement on Middle-Level Education Supporting Young Adolescents: Regents Policy Statement on Middle-Level

2/2003 - The State Education Department has released a Request For Applications to join a new Statewide Network of Middle-Level Education Support Schools. Please share the information with middle-level schools in your area and encourage them to consider applying to be a part of this network (assuming they meet the criteria). The due date for completed applications is April 1, 2003.
