Changes in Administration of the 2006-07 New
York State Alternate Assessment: To implement federal
requirements regarding alternate assessment of students with severe
cognitive disabilities, schools must modify their administration of
the NYSAA for 2006-07. A field memo describing these important

LEP/ELL Student Statewide Assessment
Policy/Title I Requirements: In
response to the U.S. Department of Education's recent findings that
the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT)
can no longer be used for Title I accountability purposes, the
Department has changed its policy on the assessment of LEP/ELL
students beginning with the 2006-07 school year. A memo

Mathematics Examinations: At its December meeting, the
Board of Regents approved a schedule for implementing the new Regents
mathematics examinations:
-
The first administration of the Integrated Algebra
examination will be in June 2008, along with the Mathematics A examination.
-
The last
administration of Mathematics A will be in January 2009.
-
The first administration of the Geometry examination will
be in June 2009, along with Mathematics B.
-
The first administration of the Algebra 2 and Trigonometry
examination will be in June 2010.
-
The last administration of Mathematics B will be no later
than June 2010.

The

Middle School Results Mixed- The Department publicly released the statewide May 2005 4th and 8th grade
mathematics test results at a press conference today at 10:30 AM. The

Mathematics B Score Conversion Chart: Based on a review
of the difficulty level of questions on the June 2005 Regents Examination
in Mathematics B, the State Education Department is issuing a new conversion
chart. Teachers do not have to rescore the examinations in order to use
this new conversion chart. To determine the students new final examination
score, find the students total test raw score in the column labeled "Raw
Score" and then locate the scaled score that corresponds to that raw score.
This scaled score is the final grade on the examination for students.

of Regents approved the phase-in of the graduation standard of 65 on required

Alternative Assessments Update: The New York State Assessment Panel meets periodically to
review proposals for alternative assessments to the Regents examinations and
to make recommendations to Commissioner Mills about whether the proposed

Pretest and Field Test
Sampling System: To ensure
that we have the adequate pretest and field test samples, the Office of
State Assessment has developed a new pretest and field test sampling method
that employs a multi-year sampling matrix. This sampling method randomly
assigns every public high school in New York State, and those nonpublic high
schools that participate in the State testing program, to one of six
strands.

NYSESLAT Test Sampler: The
Office of State Assessment recently released a set of Test Samplers for
levels K-12 of the New York State English As A Second Language Achievement
Test (NYSESLAT). These Test Samplers were developed with the input of
practitioners involved in the teaching of English as a second language (ESL)
to limited English proficient/English language learners. We want to
acknowledge the work of the staff of Bilingual Education Technical

UPDATE -Grade 8 Intermediate-Level Science Performance Test: A number of schools across the State have
experienced severe weather over the last several weeks. Therefore, the Department is extending the period for completion of
the Grade 8 Intermediate-Level Science Performance Test through Friday, February 6, 2004. Please note that all schools must
comply with the key dates and security measures specified in the

storms have had on the administration of the 2004 Regents
examinations.

Grade 8 ELA Update: There has been
an unexpected delay in the shipment of videotapes for scorer
training for the Grade 8 English Language Arts Test to all public
school districts except New York City. School district offices
outside of New York City will receive their shipments of videotapes
by FedEx on Monday, January 26, 2004. All BOCES centers and
New York City regional offices as well as nonpublic and charter
schools administering this test will receive their shipments of
videotapes on January 22 or 23.

LAB-R Cut Scores
for Districts Outside of New York City: Expanded LAB-R cut scores for use by school
districts outside of New York City have been placed on the Department's web site, at
the following Internet link:

These scores will allow districts to provide the required
units of service for newly enrolled students identified as limited English proficient,
based on their LAB-R scores. Additionally, the information contained in the memo
accompanying the cut scores provides further guidance useful to teachers in making a
determination as to the appropriate placement of their incoming students.
10/16/03 - Request for Proposal (RFP) for State Assessments
in Elementary and Intermediate (Middle) Level English Language Arts
(ELA) and Mathematics:
The New York State Education
Department has released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the
development, forms preparation, research and preparation for scoring
of 12 assessments: grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 English Language
Arts and Mathematics. The contract will begin on January 1,
2004; test administration will start in the 2005-06 school year.
Attendance is mandatory at the Bidders Conference that will be held
in Albany, NY on October 30, 2003. To obtain the RFP in
