POTENTIAL NEW DIRECTION 8

Providing Stronger Support to Student Leadership Organizations and Viewing Them as a Potentially Important Source for Preparing Future CTE Instructors

In recent years, the State Education Department has not provided a strong level of support to student leadership organizations that operate throughout the state in CTE programs.  It is possible to use Leadership funds under Perkins IV to provide a stronger level of support to those student leadership organizations.  A focus of that support could be to inform students in those organizations of the need for future CTE instructors and to assist them to identify postsecondary opportunities that might lead to their filling that need.  There is some question about the ability to provide this kind of support under Perkins IV, but there are indications that it is permissible to provide support for student leadership organizations within carefully drawn parameters.

The State Education Department is soliciting advice on including this potential direction in the Perkins IV Five-Year State Plan.
