OCCUPATIONAL EDUCATION ASSESSMENTS/SCENARIOS

Occupational Education Proficiency Examinations
Effective immediately, the Department is discontinuing the occupational education proficiency examinations in the following areas: business analysis/business computer applications, health occupations education core, clothing and textiles, food and nutrition, housing and environment, and human development. These examinations were blueprinted to the old syllabi for these areas of study and do not reflect the new high standards approved for these courses. Students will no longer be required to take these examinations to fulfill graduation requirements. However, these courses remain in place for all students pursuing a sequence in either Business/Information Systems, Health Services, and/or Human and Public Services. The Introduction to Occupations proficiency examination will continue to be administered during January, June, and August Regents examination periods. For additional information, see below.

Introduction to Occupations Students who are pursuing a sequence in occupational education must complete one unit of Introduction to Occupations and must take and pass the Introduction to Occupations Proficiency Examination.

As part of a Goals 2000 Pilot project, sample scenario assessments have been developed which provide students with situations that fit into the Learning Standards. In each scenario, students are required to apply knowledge and skills to solve problems or create products. Each scenario is accompanied by a scoring guide which assists teachers in rating their students' responses to the questions related to the scenario.
