On May 17-18, 2006, the first Business Education 2020 conference was held in Albany, New York.  Participants in this conference were given the opportunity to take a leadership role in shaping the future of business and marketing education as it moves toward the year 2020.

This select group of twenty-five future business education leaders spent two days discussing the issues and challenges facing the discipline, brainstorming strategies to address these challenges, and discussing leadership roles at the local and State levels. 

Some of the topics that were discussed included:

• Where has business and marketing education been from a historical and national perspective?

• What will the workforce look like in 2020?

• What skills and competencies will our students need to be successful?

• What are the major issues facing our discipline and what action steps can we take to address those issues?

• What does it mean to be a leader in business and marketing education?
