AYES (Automotive Youth Educational Systems) Initiative
What is it?
AYES is a collaborative effort of General Motors, Daimler Chrysler, Toyota, Volkswagen/Audi and Mercedes-Benz, in concert with the New York State Education Department, Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), Local Educational Agencies (LEA's), community colleges and automotive dealerships, to match the State's automotive programs and curriculum to meet national industry standards. In the AYES initiative, students apply academic concepts in a hands-on, occupational program with active involvement of industry partners. To be selected for the AYES distinction, programs must be of the highest quality and must consistently meet rigorous industry standards.

Being Nationally Certified
In order to become a certified AYES site, two conditions must be met:
To help schools with National Certification, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) offers certification and training for those teachers that need help in passing the certifying examinations. The purpose of the automotive technician training certification program is to improve the quality of training offered at the secondary schools.
The schools automotive program can earn the ASE certification upon recommendation of the NATEF. ASE certification through NATEF evaluation ensures that the certified training program meets or exceeds industry-recognized, uniform standards of excellence.
