Curriculum, Instruction and Instructional Technology, (CIIT)


Anne Schiano

·        Provides statewide leadership to school districts on implementing the State’s learning standards and core curriculum guidance through partnerships with USNY as well as state and national educational organizations and various professional associations.

·        Provides direct technical assistance to high-need urban school districts and to schools and districts in need of improvement.

·        Provides legislative, regulatory and policy guidance to education stakeholders and the general public.

·        Provides leadership and oversight of the Regent’s middle-level education policy through state and national networks.

·        Produces and disseminates curriculum guidance and resources through the Virtual Learning System (VLS).

·        Provides administrative oversight for competitive grants and contracts that support increased student achievement through professional development activities for classroom teachers.

Adult Education and Workforce Development, (AEWD)


Tom Orsini

torsini@mail.nysed.gov

 

·        Oversees adult basic education, English language acquisition, family literacy, workplace literacy, adult career and technical education, and workforce preparation programs.

·        Provides staff development and technical assistance to over 200 adult education agencies through the Regional Adult Education Network.

·        Supports the Commissioner of Education in his role as the co-chair of the Emerging Worker sub-committee of the State Workforce Investment Board.

·        Partners with the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance in administering the Education for Gainful Employment program, providing education and training to welfare recipients.

·        Oversees related instruction components of the apprenticeship program.

·        Oversees the statewide administration for the GED examination in New York State.

Planning and Professional Development, (PPD)


Alysan Slighter

·        Oversees three major federal programs: the Rural Education Achievement Program, Enhancing Teacher and Principal Quality, and Innovative Programs.

·        Oversees 131 state-funded Teacher Centers throughout the state to provide ongoing professional development services to teachers.

·        Oversees state regulations regarding the Professional Development Plan, Shared Decision Making, and the Annual Professional Performance Review.

·        Collaborates with other agencies, organizations and school districts to ensure that students are being taught by highly qualified teachers.

·        Promotes professional development, and improved teacher and administrator recruitment and retention.

Career and Technical Education, (CTE)


Eric Suhr

·        Provides monitoring and technical assistance so that secondary CTE programs in schools and BOCES offer high-level academic and technical skills, and ensures that these programs are available to all students in the state.

·        Processes applications for the Perkins Career and Technical Education Act funds.

·        Reviews applications for approval of CTE programs that allow students to earn a technical endorsement on their high school diplomas.

·        Provides leadership for the High Schools That Work initiative.

·        Provides assistance in the implementation of curriculum and assists in school reform efforts.

·        Provides monitoring and technical assistance to instructional technology initiatives related to Title IID of NCLB. 

·        Provides assistance to schools seeking technology aid through the Federal E-Rate funding process.

New York State Summer Institutes, (NYSSI)


Mary Daley

·        Administers the eight component schools of the State Summer School of the Arts: ballet, choral studies, dance, jazz studies, media arts, orchestral studies, theater and visual arts.  The schools offer intensive training, provided by nationally recognized artists and companies, to gifted high school students who represent the wide diversity of ethnic, social, cultural and economic backgrounds of all New Yorkers.

·        Provides statewide leadership and develops networks in the area of education for the gifted in order to build local capacity and align gifted education initiatives with state education standards.

·        Administers the Advanced Placement Fee Waiver program, which provides funds for low-income students to take College Board AP and International Baccalaureate exams.

·        Provides statewide leadership and develops ongoing networks and partnerships in the area of arts in education as it relates to all of the New York State Learning Standards.

Standards Review, (OSR)


Kathleen Clarity

·        Coordinates the Standards Review Initiative.

·        Organizes and oversees regular and direct contact, communication, and dialogue with a diverse group of teachers, administrators, business representatives, and professional groups to ensure that all New York State education and workforce entities have input into the review of the Learning Standards.

·        Leads and manages a statewide initiative of professional development for teachers and administrators on the revised Learning Standards.

·        Administers the Regents Learning Standards Review Initiative of educators, professionals and researchers to provide the Commissioner and the Regents with policy advice.
