LEP/ELL Student Statewide Assessment Policy/Title I Requirements: In response to the U.S. Department of Education's recent findings that the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test can no longer be used for Title I accountability purposes, the Department has changed its policy on the assessment of LEP/ELL students beginning with the 2006-07 school year.
A memorandum detailing these changes has been posted to the Department's website at:

USED has released the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) 5-31-06 (Archive to Featured News 11/10/06)
The U.S. Department of Education (USED) has released information on the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) Program as included in the Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005 (HERA). These grants are available to certain Pell-eligible college students starting with 2006-07 academic year. New York State Technology Education and Engineering-Related Courses or Programs in Grades 9-12 - Because of increased interest in school districts and BOCES in engineering-related programs a clarification of existing regulation and policy has been posted. The intent of this document is to help clarify for school districts and counselors, the role that engineering-related courses and programs may play as part of a technology education program in New York State. Math/Science/Technology (MST) as the Third Unit of Math or Science under the Revised Graduation Requirements - Effective September 2004, teachers certified in art education or technology education must teach instruction in Design and Drawing for Production (DDP) used to meet the art/music credit. It may be used as part of the technology education curriculum or as part of the art education curriculum. To fulfill this requirement, the course of study must use the State developed DDP syllabus in its entirety. Available in WORD or HTML      
Field Test Announcement - School Districts and BOCES are invited to field test the recently developed course Career and Financial Management. This one-half unit course is designed to replace the current Introduction to Occupations required modules in 2004. Available in WORD, PDF and HTML.

Opportunities to Seek E-Rate Funding for New York State Schools and Libraries - The application process for the E-Rate funding is available for the program year of 2003-04. In order to encourage New York State schools and libraries participation and facilitate the application process, the New York State Education Department has engaged the E-Rate Central Services to conduct a series of regional E-Rate Program Application Workshops. Introduction to Occupations Career and Financial Management Q and A - Frequently asked Introduction to Occupations questions provides information about the course, the test, teacher certification and the curriculum that will be taking its place. Available in WORD and HTML.      
The Career and Technical Education Skills Achievement Profile is a tool for documenting the career and technical skills proficiency level acquired by students with disabilities receiving an Individualized Education Program (IEP) Diploma. Schools and BOCES can offer it to students with disabilities who have taken career and technical education courses.      
NOCTI Cut Score Decision - The Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support has, in consultation with the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI), determined that the national average will be used for the New York State cut score for each NOCTI examination. This national average score is listed on each score report and changes twice a year. For information regarding this determination, please contact Konrad Raup at (518) 486-1547.
