Help Shape World History This Summer!
Listed below are new Web-based resources from the New York State Education Department and its NY Public Television Station partners to support summer curriculum development in Global History and Geography.

Global History and Geography Online Resource Guide
Instructional strategies and resources for each Global History and Geography core curriculum unit; turning points; course models; essential questions; world history scholarship; audio glossaries; video segments, lesson plans, student projects; essay strategies; and more! Direct links to the New York State learning standards and assessments.

Window Into Global History
Drawing upon the powerful film resources of WNET-Thirteen's award-winning series of international documentaries, Wide Angle, the site comprises a range of standards-based resources intended as a compelling supplement to existing Global and World History curricula. Provides over 80 video segments, lesson plans and multi-media resources from New York public television.

Champlain/Hudson/Fulton Commemoration Online Resource
Come celebrate the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain's and Henry Hudson's voyages of discovery and the 200th anniversary of the launching of Robert Fulton's Clermont. Explore 10 standards-based, interdisciplinary elementary, middle and commencement level instructional modules and 3 scholarly overviews that focus on the broad historical themes of encounters between peoples, global trade, and commerce.

An Introduction to the DBQ
Consider the many ways to access and use historical documents in the classroom for instruction and assessment. Updated in 2007 from its original version to include new web links; additional guidance on using DBQs for instruction; and a revised Global History and Geography Sample DBQ with scoring rubric for instructional use that models the format of DBQs on New York State assessments.

Global History and Geography
Photographic images held in the New York State Archives' collections in Albany show people and places as they appeared in the early twentieth century. The descriptions of the images are contemporary to that period.

Throughout the Ages: A Visual Document Resource
Throughout the Ages is an online educational resource from the New York State Archives that offers more than 450 digital images of historical photographs, letters, broadsides, maps, and paintings. Topics include: Around the World, The Environment, Transportation, Agriculture and Industry, United States History, and more. New York teachers developed accompanying lessons and a "Build Your Own Worksheet" option allows the user to create their own customized learning activities.

Find the perfect lesson plans based on programming from the Public Broadcasting Service. You can search by subject area or grade level, and all lessons are tied to national learning standards.
