Directions

In this comprehensive research project, please be sure to

• Address and develop all aspects of the task by accurately analyzing and interpreting credible sources

• Incorporate information from the sources in the body of the paper with proper in-text citation and works cited format

• Incorporate relevant outside information to support your thesis

• Support the thesis and theme with relevant facts, examples, and details

• Use a logical and clear plan of organization

• Introduce the thesis and theme by establishing a framework that is beyond a simple restatement of the task, theme, or historical context and conclude with a summation of the thesis and theme

• Refer to the Shaker High School Research Guide for proper format and guidelines; also refer to your English notes and other criteria

• Type and double-space with 12 point font and standard margins; submit as a professional presentation

• Consult the attached scoring rubric criteria category areas and standards

• Read attached information on web site research, validity, and literacy

When you submit the final copy of your research project, you will need to fulfill a cover page requirement.  (A sample is included in this packet.) The cover page should include: Name, Global/English Humanities 10R, Teachers Name, Due Date (lower right hand corner of paper). The center of the cover page will include the title of the project and an illustration relating to your topic.  For the first full page of text, please follow the proper standard format as outlined in the Research Guide.

* Remember to review your paper one last time by proofreading and spell-checking. Check for historical accuracy and competency, as this will be assessed for Global. English will focus on research mechanics, English standards, and thesis development.

Please Note:  Papers submitted without a Works Cited Page and/or without documentation will be penalized 50 points

Please be sure to:

• have proper research paper format, including the cover page requirement!!!  (refer to both packet and Research Guide)

• check your in-text citations and Works Cited Page are in correct standard format

• include in-text citations and a Works Cited Page; failure to do so will result in a 50%

• have three credible sources and cite them

• develop your thesis statement with substantial discussion and accurate information

• analyze information and "blend" information from a variety of sources; be original

• provide relevant historical facts, details, and examples with regard to research

• follow correct English mechanics and standards

• proofread, spell-check, and double-space; avoid contractions; and do not use "I"

• see my notes, feedback, and comments in your actual rough draft
